  • ECES users who do not have access to PLUS, including faculty and some non-degree seeking students, must change their ECES passwords by SSH'ing to ECES or on an ECE Undergraduate Lab Windows 2000 computer.

ECES users actually have two passwords on the system: one for accessing ECES via SSH/SCP and for logging into eces-shell and the CAD Lab Linux clients, and another for logging into the ECE Undergraduate Lab Windows 2000 client computers.

Without access to PLUS, these passwords must be changed separately.

Step-By-Step How To for Changing Your ECES Unix Password using SSH

    1. Use an SSH client to connect to eces.colorado.edu.

You will need to know your current ECES Unix username and password to login.

    2. To change your ECES Unix password, choose Change your UNIX (SSH/SCP) password.

    3. You will prompted to enter your current ECES Unix password. Do so.

    4. You will then be prompted to enter your new ECES Unix password twice.

    5. Your password must meet certain security criteria. If your new password does not meet these criteria, it will be rejected, and your password will not be changed.

Step-By-Step How To for Changing your ECES Windows Access Password in a Shell

    1. Use an SSH client to connect to eces.colorado.edu.

You will need to know your current ECES Unix username and password to login.

    2. To change your ECES Windows Access password, choose Change your Windows (Samba) password.

    3. You will be prompted to enter your current ECES Windows Access password. Do so.

    4. You will then be prompted to enter your new ECES Windows Access password twice.

    5. Your password must meet certain security criteria. If your new password does not meet these criteria, it will be rejected, and your password will not be changed.

Step-By-Step How To for Changing Your ECES Windows Access Password at an ECE Undergraduate Lab Windows 2000 Client

NOTE: The following process will not change your ECES Unix password.

    1. Login to an ECE Undergraduate Lab Windows 2000 client computer using your ECES username and current ECES Windows Access password.

    2. To change your ECES Windows Access password, press CTRL-ALT-DEL. Then choose the Change Password... option.

    3. Be sure that the "User name:" field has your ECES username. Check that the "Log on to:" field reads METAVERSE.

    4. Enter your current ECES Windows Access password in the "Old password:" field.

    5. Enter your new ECES Windows Access password in the "New password:" field and the "Confirm new password:" field.

    6. Select OK
